# Custom Water Bottles, Tumblers and Flasks in Dubai: Direct 360 Degree Printing

Sun Studio prints water bottles, tumblers and flasks that you or your gift supplier provide: full colour, wrapped 360 degrees around the body, at our studio in Al Quoz, Dubai. There is no minimum order, and every piece can carry a different name. We do not sell the drinkware. A gift shop usually sells you the bottle with the print on it; here you choose and buy the bottle, and we print it.

A branded bottle is one of the few corporate gifts that gets used every day, which is also why a poor one is so visible. The logo wears through after a month in a bag. The mark is a laser etch in whatever colour the steel turns. Or the design has been flattened to one colour because that is all the method could carry.

Direct printing takes another route: full colour, gradients, and a wrap that runs around the body without a seam. This guide is for corporate gifting buyers. It covers which drinkware takes ink, which does not, and where another method would serve you better.

## What direct 360 degree printing on a bottle means

The bottle is mounted on a rotating axis and turned under a printhead while ink is jetted straight onto its surface. No label, no shrink sleeve, no vinyl wrap, no transfer film. Because the object turns continuously, artwork runs right around the circumference and finishes where it started without a visible join. The ink is UV curable. It does not dry by evaporation or soak in: it hardens by photopolymerisation as it passes under the UV lamp. LED-UV curing adds very little heat, which is why vacuum-insulated flasks, coated bottles and items with a sealed component can be printed.

## How it compares with engraving, screen printing and transfers

Branded drinkware in the UAE is decorated in one of a handful of ways, each with a real strength and a real limit. The limit is usually what forces a client to simplify artwork.

- **Laser engraving** gives one colour: whatever colour the metal turns under the beam. Brand colours and photographs are not available.
- **Screen printing** needs a screen per colour, so setup climbs with every colour and gradients are impractical. Very cheap per piece at volume.
- **Pad printing** suits small marks on small areas, one colour per pass.
- **Sublimation** requires a polyester-coated bottle. The coating holds the image, not the metal.
- **Transfer film** is full colour but sits on the surface as a separate layer, and its edges lift first in a bag.
- **Direct UV printing** cures ink onto the bottle itself in full colour, wrapped 360 degrees, with no screens and no colour count in the setup.

## Which drinkware takes ink and which needs treatment first

Stainless steel, anodised and painted aluminium, glass, ABS and polycarbonate tumblers and PET sports bottles all print well once they are cleaned and, where the surface needs it, pre-treated. Cleaning is not a formality. A fingerprint, a dust film or a trace of release agent is exactly where the ink will fail to key, and it will not show until the first knock.

The problems are the low surface energy plastics. Polypropylene and polyethylene (common in squeeze bottles, lids and cheaper sports bottles) and silicone sleeves and grips reject ink until the surface is changed by flame, plasma or a primer. Sun Studio runs a Modico ModiTreat pre-treatment station for this, and how far you go depends on the grade. Powder-coated and soft-touch finishes are the other variable: some hold ink well, some are a soft layer that moves under it. The answer is a test piece, not a promise. ## White ink, coverage and what drives the price

On clear glass or a black steel flask, colour printed on its own goes muddy or vanishes. White ink is laid down first as an opaque base and the colour printed over the top. That is an extra ink layer and extra machine time, and it appears in the quote, which is why the same logo prices differently on a white bottle and a matte black one.

The other drivers are the size of the printed area, whether the item needs pre-treatment, the number of separate designs, and the quantity. What is absent is tooling: no screens or plates, so extra colours cost nothing in setup. ## Two jobs that show the range

A private commission ran to [50 glass bottles printed direct](https://www.sunstudio.ae/portfolio/printed-glass-bottles-birthday-dubai/), with the artwork built up in relief so it can be felt under the fingers. Fifty is a small quantity for any method that needs screens or plates, because the setup cost has so few pieces to spread across. The relief exists only because UV ink cures in stacked layers and does not soak in.

The second is [branded glassware for a bar and event service](https://www.sunstudio.ae/portfolio/branded-bar-and-event-glassware-dubai/). Tumblers and bottles for several brands, each with its own artwork, were produced in a single run because there is no screen to change between them. Each extra design still needs its own setup, though none carries a tooling bill. Glassware behind a bar is washed in a commercial dishwasher and used again, which was part of the brief. Worth saying plainly: washing life depends on the substrate, the ink coverage and your machine's cycle, so test a piece in yours first. ## When another method is the better answer

For tens of thousands of the same bottle with a single-colour logo, pad or screen printing beats direct UV printing on cost per piece.

The screens are a one-off expense and the run cost afterwards is very low, whereas digital printing prices every piece as its own job. At that volume it is not close.

Stock branded bottles from a gifting supplier are the other sensible route: a one-colour logo on an off-the-shelf item, against whatever minimum that supplier sets. Direct printing earns its place elsewhere: full colour or photographic artwork, gradients, a wrap covering most of the body, several designs in one order, or a quantity too small to justify tooling. ## What to send for a quote

Sun Studio prints drinkware; it does not manufacture it. Bottles, tumblers and flasks come from you or your own supplier.

- One sample bottle, or the exact product code and a link. If you have not bought yet, tell us the material and finish.
- Vector artwork (AI, EPS or PDF), or 300 dpi at final print size. Flag any Pantone references that must be matched.
- The print area: a full 360 degree wrap, one panel, or both sides.
- The quantity, and whether it is one design or several. Say if individual names or numbering are needed.
- Any coating, soft-touch finish or silicone sleeve on the item.
- Your deadline, and where in the UAE the order is going.

## Common questions

### Can you print a tapered tumbler or a travel mug with a handle?

Usually, within limits. Most steel tumblers narrow towards the base, so the print is set as a band over the straightest part of the body, and only a slight taper takes a full-height wrap. LSINC gives both of our presses a taper limit of plus 10 to minus 2 degrees. A handle interrupts the turn, so a handled mug is checked on the press before we quote.

### Will a print hold on a powder-coated or soft-touch steel bottle?

Often, but not always. On a coated bottle the ink bonds to the coating, not to the steel underneath. A hard, fully cured powder coat usually holds ink well. A soft-touch or rubberised finish can be a soft layer that moves under the print. Send one bottle before you buy the full quantity, and we will test that surface first.

### How do we order bottles with a different name on each one?

Send the artwork that stays the same on every piece, plus one list of names in its final spelling, in English, Arabic or both. There is no screen or plate, so changing the name from bottle to bottle adds no tooling cost. Names are printed exactly as supplied, so check the list before it reaches us, and include a few spare bottles.

### Which suits a steel tumbler: UV printing, laser engraving or sublimation?

It depends on the artwork. Laser engraving gives one colour, the colour the steel turns, and suits a plain logo. Sublimation needs a tumbler sold with a polyester coating. Direct UV printing carries brand colours, gradients and photographs on an ordinary steel, glass or aluminium tumbler, wrapped 360 degrees. For one colour at very high volume, pad or screen printing costs less per piece.

### Do you print on plastic sports bottles?

PET and polycarbonate bottles and ABS tumblers print well after cleaning. Polypropylene and polyethylene bottles and lids, and silicone sleeves, are low surface energy and will reject ink until they are flame, plasma or primer treated first.
