# VKTR Studio: Turn Logos, Line Art and Detailed Artwork Into Vectors for Printing

Most artwork reaches a print studio as a PNG or a JPG: a logo saved from a website, a sketch photographed on a phone, an illustration generated with AI. Those are raster images, grids of pixels at a fixed size, and pixels do not enlarge well onto a glass panel, a sign or a two metre wall.

[VKTR Studio](https://www.vktrstudio.com/) is the image-to-vector tool we use in our own studio to turn that kind of artwork into editable vector shapes. It traces everything from a two-colour logo to fine line art and detailed, multi-colour illustrations, splits the result into layers you can select and edit, and runs in a web browser. For transparency: VKTR is a PRO TECHnology project, part of the same group as Sun Studio. We use it in our own workflow, and we describe it here from that perspective.

You do not have to convert anything before you order from us: standard file preparation is included with your print order, and we can [help when you have an idea but no print-ready file](https://www.sunstudio.ae/insights/custom-printing-design-help-dubai/). This guide is for designers, brand teams and anyone who wants to prepare their own artwork.

## Why printing needs vector artwork

A raster image stores a fixed number of pixels. Scaling it up does not create new detail; it makes each pixel bigger, which is why edges soften and small text blurs at the corners.

A vector file stores shapes as paths, curves and fills. Enlarging it redraws the shapes at the new size, so an edge stays an edge whether the artwork is printed at 100 mm on a bottle or across a two metre [glass panel](https://www.sunstudio.ae/insights/large-format-glass-printing-dubai/). Vectors also let a designer pick out one part of the artwork to recolour, move or resize, which a flat image cannot do.

## What VKTR Studio can vectorise

VKTR looks at each image before it traces it, works out whether it is black-and-white artwork, flat colour, artwork with gradients or a photo, and handles each kind differently.

### Logos and brand marks

VKTR finds the flat colours in a logo, anywhere from 2 to 32, and traces each one into smooth curves, with every part of the logo as its own shape. A mark built from interlocking rings or crossed bands can be split into its separate bands. In browsers that support it, VKTR also enlarges a tiny logo copied from a website before tracing, and cleans the compression blocks out of a JPG that has been through WhatsApp or a screenshot.

### Line art, sketches and scans

Black-and-white mode traces drawings, signatures, stamps and hand lettering in a single ink colour, with the threshold set automatically or by hand, and an invert option for light lines on a dark background. Scans and phone photos of paper can be straightened, trimmed, evened out and cleaned of dust first, and, in browsers that support it, grainy images are smoothed before they are traced.

### Lettering

VKTR finds the text in a design and groups it into lines and then words, so a business name and a tagline arrive as separate layers. Traced letters are shapes you can resize and recolour. For clear English or Arabic words, VKTR can swap them for live text in a close standard font, in SVG files.

### Illustrations and vector art

Flat illustrations, characters, packaging artwork and patterns are traced colour by colour, with each part kept as its own shape, so a detailed illustration stays editable instead of turning into one block. The perfume bottle in the picture at the top of this page, a test illustration, came out as 122 paths in 19 colours, its label lettering included.

### Gradients, glows and soft shadows

A smooth colour ramp becomes a real linear or radial gradient fill, and a glow or a soft shadow keeps its transparency, instead of being cut into dozens of flat stripes.

### Photos

Photo mode turns a camera photo into layered vector art in one of two styles: Detailed, with 24 colours, or Illustration, with 16 colours and a smoother finish. Faces get their own shading. The result is a stylised vector image, not a copy of the photograph, so for a photographic print we still ask for the original photo.

## Who VKTR Studio is for

- **Print shops and production teams** handling customer artwork every day, as we do.
- **Designers** rebuilding a client's logo from a PNG, a screenshot or an AI-generated image.
- **Business owners and brand teams** who need one logo to work on a website, packaging, signage and merchandise.
- **Makers with cutting machines**: vinyl cutters, laser cutters and engravers, and CNC routers, which work from SVG or DXF outlines.
- **Merchandise and embroidery**: T-shirts, caps and patches, where a printer or an embroidery digitiser starts from clean, separated colours.

## How to vectorise artwork with VKTR Studio

1. **Open the image.** Go to [VKTR Studio](https://www.vktrstudio.com/studio) and drop, choose or paste a PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC file. Use the largest, sharpest copy you have. You do not need an account to convert, preview or edit.
2. **Let VKTR trace it.** It picks the mode, the number of colours and whether to remove a plain white background, then shows the original and the vector side by side.
3. **Check the layers.** The Layers panel groups the artwork into the background, the objects and the text, with the text split into lines and words.
4. **Edit what you need.** Click a part to select it, drag a handle to resize it, give it a new colour by hex code, or hide, delete, duplicate and regroup shapes, with undo.
5. **Download the right file.** In the File tab, set the width in millimetres, from 1 to 5,000, and download SVG, PDF, EPS or DXF.

The tracing runs in your browser, so your artwork is not uploaded anywhere.

## Which VKTR file to download for each job

- **PDF**: what most printers ask for. VKTR's PDF holds vector paths only, and for logos and illustrations each main element is its own layer.
- **SVG**: for websites, cutting machines such as Cricut, and most design software. Each element is a named group, so Illustrator, Figma and Inkscape list the parts.
- **EPS**: for sign makers and older design software. EPS has no transparency, so a glow or a soft shadow is blended into what sits beneath it.
- **DXF**: for laser cutters, engravers and CNC routers: closed outlines in millimetres, with one layer per colour.

## Which file to send Sun Studio for each surface

Before any conversion, the useful question is what the job actually needs. This is what we ask for, by surface:

- **Logos, text and line art** (signage, badges, awards, bottles, cups): a vector PDF, SVG, EPS or AI file with fonts converted to outlines. A VKTR PDF or SVG does the job. If all you have is a PNG, send the largest one you have and we will tell you whether it needs redrawing or vectorising.
- **Photographs and full-colour artwork** (glass, walls, panels, gifts): the original raster file at the largest size you have. We check its resolution against the printed size and tell you if it will look soft; there is no need to guess a dpi figure.
- **Round containers** (bottles, cans, tumblers, jars): the artwork laid out flat at the size of the printed area, plus the container's diameter and height, or a photo of it with a ruler. We build the wrap; see [cylindrical printing](https://www.sunstudio.ae/services/cylindrical-printing-dubai/).
- **Colour references**: Pantone numbers where you have them, or a physical sample to match against. How that works on glass is explained in our [colour-matching guide](https://www.sunstudio.ae/insights/glass-colour-matching-gradient-printing-dubai/).
- **White ink**: on clear or dark surfaces, tell us which elements must stay opaque and which can let the surface show through.
- **With every file**: a photo of the actual object or panel, the quantity, and the date it is needed. Send it by WhatsApp or through the [contact page](https://www.sunstudio.ae/contact).

## What UV printing asks for beyond the vector

A VKTR file gives us clean, editable artwork. Depending on the effect, the job may need more information than the picture:

**Clear substrates**: artwork for [acrylic](https://www.sunstudio.ae/services/acrylic-printing-dubai/) or clear glass may need a separate layer defining where white ink goes, because process inks are transparent and take on whatever is behind them.

**Reverse printing**: printing on the back face, read through the material, needs the artwork mirrored and the layer order inverted. There is more on [how reverse printing on acrylic works](https://www.sunstudio.ae/insights/sun-studio-dubai-leading-the-way-in-acrylic-printing-for-over-15-years/) in our acrylic guide.

**Raised and embossed effects**: [raised UV printing](https://www.sunstudio.ae/insights/raised-3d-embossed-uv-printing-tactile-braille-dubai/) needs artwork identifying which elements take the extra ink or varnish layers, as a separate layer rather than a note. Editable vector shapes help define those areas.

**Cylindrical work**: [360 degree printing](https://www.sunstudio.ae/services/cylindrical-printing-dubai/) on [perfume bottles](https://www.sunstudio.ae/services/perfume-bottle-printing-dubai/) and other containers needs the design set to the printable height, the circumference, the seam position and the shape of the vessel.

None of that is in an SVG. It comes from knowing the application, which is why we prepare those layers with you.

## A vector file is not yet a print-ready file

A vector file describes the artwork. A print-ready file describes the artwork at the final size, in the right colours, with fonts handled, transparency resolved, bleed where the process needs it, and prepared for the specific printing method.

VKTR gives you the first. We prepare the second, so send us the VKTR file together with the original image, and tell us the object, the material and the size.

## How we use VKTR Studio at Sun Studio

We tried VKTR on four files first, then had a call and a demonstration, and now use a VKTR Enterprise subscription for suitable customer artwork. VKTR handles the conversion; our designers check the paths, the lettering and the colours, and prepare the production layers, masks and settings for the material and the finish. VKTR has written up [how that workflow runs](https://www.vktrstudio.com/insights/image-to-vector-printing-sun-studio).

## Common questions

### What is VKTR Studio?

VKTR Studio is an online image-to-vector converter. It turns PNG, JPG, WebP and HEIC images into editable, layered vector artwork in your browser and downloads it as SVG, PDF, EPS or DXF. It is a PRO TECHnology project, part of the same group as Sun Studio, and we use it in our own studio.

### What kinds of artwork can VKTR Studio vectorise?

Logos, icons, line art, sketches, signatures, stamps, lettering, flat and detailed illustrations, artwork with gradients, and photos, which become stylised vector art in a Detailed or an Illustration style.

### Can VKTR Studio trace line art and hand drawings?

Yes. Black-and-white mode traces drawings, sketches, signatures and stamps in one ink colour, with an automatic or manual threshold, and scans can be straightened, trimmed and cleaned of dust first.

### Can VKTR Studio turn a photo into a vector?

Yes, as vector art rather than a photographic copy. Photo mode traces a photo in a Detailed or an Illustration style, with faces shaded separately. For a photographic print, send us the original photo instead.

### Which VKTR file should I send for printing?

Send the PDF or the SVG for printed artwork, an EPS if a sign maker asks for one, and a DXF for laser cutting, engraving or CNC. Send the original image as well, and tell us the object and the size.

### Is VKTR Studio free?

Converting, previewing and editing are free with no account. A free account downloads one file a day, with no credit card; paid plans add more downloads.

### Do I have to vectorise my artwork before ordering from Sun Studio?

No. Standard file preparation is included with your print order. Send the best image you have and we will tell you whether it needs vectorising or redrawing.

### Is an SVG a print-ready file?

Not by itself. A print-ready file also accounts for the final dimensions, colour, fonts, transparency, bleed where the process requires it, and the printing method. A vector describes the artwork; print-ready describes the job.

### What file should I send for UV printing on glass or acrylic?

Send vector artwork for logos, text and graphic shapes, and a high-resolution raster file for photographic content, both at or above the final printed size. Say what the material is and how large it will be, because clear substrates may also need a white-ink layer defined.

Artwork now arrives faster than ever, as AI images, phone sketches and logos saved from websites, and a press still needs clean shapes at the right size. VKTR Studio turns those images into layered vector artwork in a browser tab; we turn the artwork into the printed object. Send us the file and the application, and our team will tell you what the job needs before anything is printed. Sun Studio is in Al Quoz First, Dubai.
