# wallPen Price in the UAE: What It Costs to Buy, Run and Pay Back

A wallPen starts at EUR 44,000 plus VAT, including an ink starter kit. That is the price the German manufacturer publishes on its own website. The price of a machine delivered, installed and supported in the UAE is quoted separately by PRO TECHnology, the authorised wallPen distributor in the Middle East. Sun Studio belongs to the same Dubai group as PRO TECHnology, which supplied our machine, so this is not an independent review: read our view of the machine with that in mind.

We are a print studio, not a machine dealer. We run a wallPen E2 on client sites and sell [direct-to-wall printing in Dubai and across the UAE](https://www.sunstudio.ae/services/wall-printing-dubai/) by the square metre. This note sets out what the manufacturer publishes about the cost to buy and run the machine, how the payback sum works, and when it makes more sense to pay for a printed wall than to own the printer. Where we cannot source a figure, we give none.

## What the wallPen is, and what it prints on

The wallPen E2 is a vertical UV inkjet printer made in Germany. It stands on the floor on a wheeled platform, travels along a floor rail and prints the artwork straight onto the wall, up to 4 metres high. It never mounts to the wall. UV-LED lamps cure the ink as it lands, so there is no vinyl, no paper and no drying time. The manufacturer gives a resolution range of 300 to 1,200 dpi.

wallPen lists plaster, wallpaper, wood, brick, painted walls, stone, metal, glass and most tiles among the surfaces the machine prints. In our experience a sound, clean, matt painted wall gives the most predictable result, and smooth non-porous surfaces such as glass, glazed tile and coated metal need a primer first. On durability, the manufacturer states colour stability indoors of up to 12 years, depending on the surface and the wear it takes. Outdoors it states a UV resistance of around 2 years, which a clear coat can extend. Plan any exterior wall in the UAE around that figure, not around the indoor one.

## What a wallPen costs to buy

The [manufacturer's FAQ](https://www.wallpen.com/en/faq) states that a wallPen starts at EUR 44,000 plus VAT, including an ink starter kit (checked on 20 September 2026). That is a European starting price, not a UAE price. According to the same page, the purchase price includes:

- an ink flat rate for 12 months, optionally 24 months;
- two days of training for two people;
- one year of warranty, support and software updates.

What the published price does not tell you is the landed cost in the UAE. Freight, customs clearance, installation, local training and local service are part of the quotation from [PRO TECHnology's wallPen team](https://www.protechnology.ae/wallpen-wall-uv-printing-middle-east). Ask for the quote to itemise hardware, software, installation, training, ink and warranty, and confirm in writing whether the ink flat rate and the training apply to a machine sold in the UAE. We do not publish a dirham price: it moves with configuration and the exchange rate, and it is not ours to quote.

## What it costs to run, and how payback works

wallPen states that ink typically costs between EUR 2 and EUR 5 per square metre, at roughly 5 to 10 ml of ink per square metre. Consumption rises with dense artwork, textured surfaces and a white base under the colour. During the flat-rate period the manufacturer describes, ink is covered by the purchase price.

Ink is the small part. On our jobs the real costs are the operator's day, travel to site, the site survey, wall preparation and the days the machine does not print. The manufacturer gives a print speed of about 0.8 to 10 square metres per hour and calls 2 to 3 square metres per hour a practical balance of speed and quality. At that pace a 10 square metre wall is four to five hours of printing, before set-up, alignment and clean-down are counted.

The payback sum is simple. Divide the total investment by the margin you keep per square metre after ink, labour and travel. That gives the square metres the machine must print to pay for itself. Then divide that by the square metres you can realistically sell each month.

Utilisation decides the payback period far more than the purchase price does. Selling price, job size, labour, travel, consumables, downtime and real demand all move the answer.

We give no payback period, revenue projection or margin figure here, because we cannot source one that would hold for another business, and we do not publish our own running costs. ## Questions to ask any wall printer supplier

Cheaper vertical printers are sold online. We have not tested them, so we make no claims about them. Whatever machine you consider, a wallPen included, put the same questions to the supplier:

- Who services the machine in the UAE, and how quickly can a technician reach you?
- Are spare parts and print heads held in the region, and what do they cost?
- Does the ink come with written documentation, such as safety data sheets and suitability for indoor use?
- What does the warranty cover, for how long, and who honours it locally?
- Can you watch it print on a sample of your own surface before you pay?

A machine that stops in the middle of a project costs more than the difference in purchase price, so weigh local support as heavily as the specification.

## Buy a machine, or pay per square metre?

Most people who search for a wallPen price fall into one of two groups. Buy if wall printing will be a business line: a signage firm, print shop or fit-out contractor with steady monthly demand, an operator to train, and the means to survey sites and prepare walls. Pay per square metre if you need walls printed, not a printer. An interior designer, a school, a gym or a retailer with a few walls a year will not keep a machine busy.
