# Furniture Printing in Dubai

Sun Studio prints artwork in UV ink **directly onto furniture components** at our studio in Al Quoz, Dubai: cabinet and wardrobe fronts, headboards, table and desk tops, screens and decorative panels. The image goes onto the panel itself, so a piece can carry artwork without a laminate edge or a wrap that lifts at a corner. This is printing on panels you supply, not 3D-printed furniture.

Furniture makers and joinery workshops across the UAE use it, as do interior designers specifying bespoke pieces, and hotels and restaurants where the furniture is part of the identity of the space. There is no minimum order: one headboard is a normal job, and so is a full set of wardrobe fronts.

## What we can print

Furniture printing is really panel printing with assembly in mind, so components come to us flat:

- **Cabinet and wardrobe fronts**: the most common component by volume.
- **Headboards**: printed as a panel before upholstery or framing.
- **Table and desk tops**: where wear is the deciding factor, covered below.
- **Screens and room dividers**: printed both sides where they are seen from both.
- **Decorative panels and inserts**: inlays and feature sections.
- **Chair and seating components**: rigid backs and panels.
- **Retail and display fixtures**: fitted joinery and shop furniture.

## Printing capabilities

What applies depends on the substrate and where the piece will be touched:

- **Direct UV printing**: cured onto the component.
- **Full colour**: material effects, pattern, photographic artwork and brand graphics at panel scale.
- **White ink base**: so colour reads true on a dark or strongly grained panel.
- **Print through to the grain**: colour laid so a timber panel shows through the image.
- **Raised and textured effects**: pattern that can be felt, which suits doors and decorative fronts.
- **Varnish**: gloss or matte over selected areas.
- **Both sides**: for screens and free-standing pieces.

## Printed panels or laminate and vinyl wrap

Furniture is decorated three ways in this market, and the difference shows at the edges.

### Laminate and vinyl wrap

A sheet material is bonded or wrapped over the panel. Laminates are hard-wearing and well suited to work surfaces; vinyl wrap is quick and covers a shaped profile.

Both are applied layers, so both have an edge. Wrapped edges and laminate joints are where furniture visibly ages, and the pattern is limited to what the supplier makes.

### Direct printing

The artwork is printed onto the panel itself, so there is no applied sheet, no edge to lift and no join across a wide front. Any artwork is possible, including one image running across a set of doors.

The trade-off is wear. A printed surface is a cured ink layer, not a laminate, so it suits vertical and low-contact surfaces (doors, headboards, fronts and screens) better than a desk top that will be written on daily. On a work surface we would talk about a protective top layer or suggest laminate is the better specification.

## What to send before we can quote

Component-level information is what we need, not a description of the finished piece:

- **Component sizes**: each panel, not the assembled dimensions.
- **The material**: MDF, plywood, timber, veneer, melamine-faced.
- **Surface condition**: raw, primed, sealed, painted or laminated.
- **Thickness**.
- **Quantity**, and whether the artwork repeats or runs across a set.
- **Artwork**, and the layout if it spans several fronts.
- **Where the surface will be touched**: a door, a headboard or a work surface.
- **Whether components are already machined**: they should be.

## How it works

Component sizes, material, surface condition, quantity and artwork.

We confirm whether the panels need sealing and how the artwork sets out across the set.

**Step 3**

Sample

On unfamiliar board or for a colour-critical scheme, a test panel is printed first.

Components are printed flat, registered across sets, checked and packed for assembly.

## Technical considerations

Furniture printing is board printing with two extra questions attached: what order the work happens in, and how much the finished surface gets touched.

What matters:

### Print after machining, before assembly

Components are printed flat. Cutting, routing and drilling happen first; assembly and finishing happen after.

### Surface condition

Sealed or primed board holds ink on the surface and keeps colour saturated. Raw MDF absorbs it and mutes the result.

### Wear

A cured ink layer is not a laminate. Doors, fronts, headboards and screens are well suited; a desk top written on daily is not, and we will say so rather than take the job on a false promise.

### Edges

Cut MDF edges are absorbent and visible on a door. Decide early whether artwork wraps the edge or stops short of it.

### Registration across a set

A pattern running across several wardrobe fronts has to line up once hung, so gaps and reveals are accounted for before printing.

### Melamine and veneer facings

The ink bonds to the facing. Some melamines are deliberately low-energy, so these are worth a sample.

### Protective finishes

Where a printed surface needs more durability, a clear coat applied afterwards is worth discussing at the design stage rather than later.

## Common questions

### Can you print directly onto furniture?

Yes, onto the components. Panels are printed flat at the studio after machining and before assembly, which is what gives a clean result across doors, fronts and headboards.

### Is this 3D-printed furniture?

No. We do not 3D print furniture or make the furniture itself. We print artwork in UV ink onto flat components that a furniture maker, joinery workshop or designer supplies, such as cabinet fronts, wardrobe doors, headboards and table tops. The pieces go back to you for assembly.

### Should I send assembled furniture or flat components?

Flat components, every time. An assembled piece cannot lie on the bed the way a panel can, and seams and thickness variation get in the way.

### Can you print a table top?

We can, but a printed surface is a cured ink layer rather than a laminate, so a work surface in daily use is a demanding application. For a heavily used top, a laminate or a protective clear coat over the print is the better specification. Talk to us at the design stage.

### Is there a minimum order for furniture printing?

No. One headboard or a single cabinet front is a normal job, and so is a batch of wardrobe doors for a villa or hotel project. We quote for exactly the components you send, whether every panel is different or the artwork repeats.

### How is furniture printing priced?

Per job, from the components. The quotation depends on the panel sizes, the board and its surface condition, the quantity, the ink coverage, and whether the artwork needs white ink, raised texture, varnish or a second printed side. Send those details with the artwork and we quote for that set.

### What artwork file should I send?

Vector files (AI, EPS or PDF) with type outlined for logos, lettering and pattern, and high-resolution images at the finished panel size for photographic artwork. If one design runs across several fronts, send the layout with each panel size and the gaps between them.

### Can I see a printed sample before the full batch?

Yes. On an unfamiliar board, on melamine or veneer facings, or for a colour-critical scheme, we print a test panel first. Send an offcut of the same board with the same surface finish, so the sample shows how the ink sits and holds on your material.
