# Wall Printing in Dubai

Sun Studio prints murals, brand graphics and wayfinding **directly onto the wall itself**, on site, for interior designers, fit-out contractors, businesses and homeowners in Dubai and across the UAE. A vertical printer stands on the floor in front of the wall and lays the image onto the surface without touching it: no wallpaper, no vinyl panels, no adhesive and no seams where sheets meet.

A print can be up to 4 metres high with no limit on width. Pricing starts at AED 850 per square metre and there is no minimum order. Our studio is in Al Quoz, Dubai, and we print directly onto the wall, on site, in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah, Ajman and the other emirates, with travel outside Dubai quoted as part of the job.

## What we can print on

The wall surface matters more than anything else here, because the ink goes onto whatever is already there:

- **Painted plaster and skim**: the most common case, and generally the best ground.
- **Smooth concrete and render**: printable, with the texture reading through the image.
- **Gypsum board and partition walls**: as long as the surface is sound and finished.
- **Textured walls**: possible, with the understanding that texture becomes part of the image.
- **Interior walls of any width**: the printer travels along the wall on a floor rail, so length is not the constraint that panel size would be.

The wall printer works on vertical walls only. ## Printing capabilities

What the machine does on site, with its limits stated as plainly as its capabilities:

- **Up to 4 metres high, any width**: the printer travels along a rail laid on the floor, so a long wall is one continuous image with no sheet join.
- **Full colour and monochrome**: photographic murals, illustration, pattern and large-scale typography.
- **Printing at final size**: the artwork is produced at the wall's own dimensions, so nothing is tiled or joined.
- **Margins at the edges**: the machine cannot print to the very edge of a wall. The manufacturer gives the unprintable margins as about 25 cm at the top and at the bottom, 6 cm on the left and 10 cm on the right, so artwork is set out inside them.
- **Logo and wayfinding graphics**: brand marks and directional information printed into the wall finish.
- **No minimum order**: one small wall or a single logo is a job. Pricing starts at AED 850 per square metre, and the rate per metre comes down as the area grows.

## Printed wall or wallpaper and vinyl

Wallpaper and applied vinyl are good products, and there are jobs where they are the right answer: [a fuller comparison of how each one fails](https://www.sunstudio.ae/insights/wall-printing-dubai-vs-wallpaper-and-vinyl/) covers when a sheet is the better specification. The differences are practical rather than a matter of one being better. ### Wallpaper and vinyl panels

A printed sheet is produced off site and hung or applied. That makes it fast, easy to replace, and removable at the end of a lease.

The trade-offs show at scale: a wide mural arrives in drops that have to be matched, so there are seams to align, and adhesive can lift at edges and around corners, sockets and skirting.

### Printing direct onto the wall

Nothing is applied, so there is no seam anywhere on the wall, no edge to lift and no adhesive to fail. The image sits in the wall finish, which is why a direct-printed wall reads as part of the room rather than as something stuck to it.

The trade-offs are the other way round: the work happens on site, so the wall and the space have to be available and the surface has to be sound, and changing the graphic later means redecorating rather than peeling.

## What to send before we can quote

Wall work is quoted from the wall itself, so photographs matter more here than on any other service:

- **A photograph of the wall**: straight on, and a second from an angle so we can see the surface.
- **Wall dimensions**: width and height of the area to be printed.
- **The surface**: painted plaster, bare concrete, gypsum board, textured render.
- **Obstructions**: sockets, switches, skirting, doors, pipework and anything projecting.
- **Access**: floor space in front of the wall, ceiling height and how the equipment gets into the room.
- **The artwork**, or a description of what is wanted.
- **The location**: the building and the emirate, because travel outside Dubai is part of the quote.
- **Timing**: when the space is available, and whether other trades are still working.

## How it works

The wall is prepared and the artwork is set out to the exact dimensions, inside the margins the machine cannot reach, before anything is printed.

Print on site

The mural is printed in place and cured as it goes down.

## Technical considerations

Printing on site removes the seams, but it also removes the control a flatbed gives you. The wall is the substrate, and you cannot change it after the fact.

What decides the result:

### Surface condition

the wall has to be sound, dry, clean and properly finished. Flaking paint, dust and loose skim are the enemy, because the ink can only be as stable as what it sits on.

### Absorbency

a bare, porous wall drinks ink and mutes colour. A sealed or painted surface holds it. This is normally settled by priming or painting the wall first.

### Texture

every bump reads through the image. On a smooth skim that is invisible; on heavy render it becomes a deliberate part of the look, and fine detail suffers.

### Flatness and plumb

the machine references the wall, so bows, steps and out-of-plumb sections affect how the image lands.

### Access and clearance

the printer stands on a wheeled platform and travels along a rail laid on the floor. It needs clear floor along the full length of the wall and a route into the room. Tell us about lifts, stairs and narrow doors early.

### Site conditions

the wall and the air around it have to be clean. Sanding, cutting and other dusty work nearby should be finished before the print day.

### Moisture

a wall with a damp problem will fail whatever is put on it. That has to be resolved before printing, not after.

### Changing it later

a printed wall is redecorated rather than peeled off. Worth knowing before it goes into a leased space.

## Common questions

### Can you print directly onto a wall?

Yes. A vertical printer stands on the floor in front of the wall, on site, and prints the image onto the surface itself without touching it. The ink is cured as it goes down. There is no wallpaper, no vinyl and no adhesive involved, so there is no sheet edge to lift later.

### Does it work on any wall?

It works on most sound interior walls: painted plaster, skim, gypsum board and smooth concrete. The surface has to be dry, clean and properly finished. Flaking paint, damp or loose skim must be put right first, and a heavy texture will show through the image.

### Is there a size limit?

The print can be up to 4 metres high and there is no limit on width, because the printer travels along the wall on a floor rail. It cannot reach the very edges: the manufacturer gives margins of about 25 cm at the top and bottom, 6 cm on the left and 10 cm on the right. Send the wall dimensions and we will confirm the printable area.

### Is there a minimum wall size or a minimum order?

No. There is no minimum order, so one small feature wall or a single logo is a job we take. Pricing starts at AED 850 per square metre. Bringing the machine to site is a fixed cost, which is why the rate per metre comes down as the area grows.

### Do you charge for travel to sites outside Dubai?

We print walls on site in all seven emirates from our studio in Al Quoz, Dubai. Travel outside Dubai is priced into the quote, not added afterwards, so tell us the building and the emirate when you send the photographs and dimensions.

### Do you need to visit the site before you quote?

Usually not. Most walls are quoted from two photographs, the width and height, the surface type and the location. A curved or heavily textured wall, or a room with awkward access, is a question for a site visit before we promise a result.

### How long will you need the room for?

It depends on the area, the artwork and the state of the wall, so we give a time with the quote, not a standard figure. The one job timed on this site is [a Business Bay office corner](https://www.sunstudio.ae/portfolio/pro-technology-direct-to-wall-printing-business-bay/), printed across two walls in about two hours. The floor in front of the wall has to be clear while the machine works.

### Who prepares the wall before printing?

We check the surface from your photographs, or on a site visit, and tell you what it needs first: repairs, a primer or a fresh coat of paint. Whether your painter does that work or it is included in our quote is agreed before a print date is booked.

### When in the programme should wall printing happen?

Late. Dust from other trades is the most common site problem, so the wall is best printed once the surface is finished and the heavy work around it is done. Book it after the painters and before furniture goes against the wall, because the printer needs clear floor in front of it.
