JETOUR Truck Branding for Elite Group, Printed Directly on the Tarpaulin

Elite Group Holding is the distributor of JETOUR cars in the UAE. Its two JETOUR trucks have grey tarpaulin sides, and the branding had to go onto all four: the JETOUR wordmark, Drive Your Future, the Elite Group logo and the web address.

We printed all four sides straight onto the tarpaulin with a wallPen, the German-made printer we normally use on walls, in the service hall of the JETOUR showroom in Al Ain. The whole job took six hours.

The brief

Truck branding usually goes onto a new tarpaulin printed on a roll-to-roll machine, or onto film applied over the old one. Neither suited these trucks.

The tarpaulin was too thick to feed through a roll-to-roll printer, and it is coated in a specific grey that was part of the look. The branding had to be printed onto these tarpaulins, as they were, on the trucks.

Our approach

A tarpaulin on the side of a truck is a large vertical surface, which is exactly what a wall printer is built for. The wallPen stands on the floor on its own rails alongside the truck and prints in passes as it travels, up to 4 metres high and with no limit on length.

The lettering went down in black, with white ink for the Elite Group words. The colours in a UV ink set are transparent, so anything lighter than the grey underneath has to be printed in white.

Production detail

The wallPen measures the surface with a laser and compensates for unevenness, which matters on a tarpaulin: it is never as flat as a plastered wall. The UV ink cures as it is printed, so every pass is dry before the next one starts.

Nothing was taken off the trucks, and nothing was applied over the tarpaulin, not even a clear coat. The ink sits on the grey coating itself, so there is no film edge to lift.

The result

Both trucks carry the JETOUR and Elite Group branding on the left and right sides of their own grey tarpaulins, four sides in all, with no new curtain made and no film applied over them. The rear doors were not part of our job. The video shows one of the finished sides.
