Frequently asked questions
What is UV printing?
UV printing is digital printing in which the ink is jetted straight onto an object and cured by ultraviolet light the instant it lands. Nothing is absorbed and nothing is stuck on afterwards, so the artwork sits on the item itself rather than on a label, a wrap or a transfer film. Read the full explainer on how UV printing works.
What materials can Sun Studio print on?
Glass, aluminium and other metals, acrylic, wood and MDF, ceramic and tile, natural stone and marble, leather, textiles, most plastics, wax and finished plaster walls. Polypropylene, polyethylene and silicone need flame, plasma or primer treatment first; PET, polycarbonate and ABS print well once properly cleaned. See photographs of our work, material by material.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No. There are no screens or plates to pay for, so a single piece runs the same process as a batch of a thousand. Cost per piece still falls with quantity, because setup and jigging are shared across the run. Why screen printing needs minimums and direct UV printing does not.
Can you print on items we have already bought?
Yes, and that is the normal arrangement. Sun Studio prints; it does not manufacture the objects it prints on. Bottles, cans, glassware, candles, award bodies and panels come from you or your supplier. Send one sample first so the surface can be tested.
Which emirates do you serve?
All seven emirates. Studio printing is done at our workshop in Warehouse 7, Al Quoz First, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, where we have been since 2011, open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. Items are dropped off or couriered to us, and the finished work is collected from the studio or delivered within the UAE, with delivery quoted per job. How large can Sun Studio print?
Our largest press is the IQDEMY EVO 2500, a belt flatbed 2.5 metres wide with no machine limit on length, used for large glass panels, ACP and board. Our Direct Color Systems UV84 has a 4 x 8 ft bed, and walls are printed on site up to 4 metres high. Send each panel’s size and thickness and we confirm the fit. How big a panel each press can print.
How long does a printed finish last?
Indoors, on a properly prepared surface, a cured print lasts as long as the object stays in normal use, because the ink is a hard cross-linked film rather than a coating resting on top. What decides it is the preparation and the duty the object does, so outdoor and heavy-wear work is worth testing on a sample first. How long a UV print lasts, surface by surface.
