Flat Perfume Bottle Printing for Qatarat Al Ward

Qatarat Al Ward wanted a bottle that belonged to the place it was being sold in. The scent was summery; the design brief was the desert — Dubai dunes, warm light, a single dark silhouette against the sand.

Sun Studio printed 1,450 flat bottles direct, for sale on the shop floor.

The requirement

A retail perfume has to work at two distances. From across the shop it needs one strong shape; in the hand it has to survive being turned over and looked at closely.

What we did

The bottles were printed direct rather than labelled, so the design sits on the glass and the bottle can go straight to the shelf without waiting on label stock.

Colour was managed across the whole run rather than per batch, because on a shelf the bottles are seen next to each other.

Technical considerations

A smooth gradient across sand tones is unforgiving on both counts. Banding shows immediately on a soft tonal sweep, and any colour drift between bottles is exposed the moment two of them stand side by side on a shelf. At 1,450 pieces, consistency stops being a detail and becomes the entire job.

The outcome

1,450 bottles that look like the place they were made for — on a shop shelf, rather than in a warehouse waiting on label stock.
