Can you print your name or design on a suitcase in Dubai?

Yes. Sun Studio prints direct onto hard-shell suitcases with UV ink at our studio in Al Quoz, Dubai: a name, initials, a logo or a complete design, in full colour, with raised detail where you want it and a varnish over the top. One case, a matching pair or a corporate run.

In short:

  • Method: direct UV printing; the ink is cured by UV light on the shell as it prints, with no sticker, film or transfer.
  • Cases: hard-shell suitcases and cabin cases; polycarbonate and ABS print well once cleaned, polypropylene needs pre-treatment first.
  • Colour: full colour on light or dark shells, with white ink under the colour on a dark case.
  • Texture: raised ink for details you can feel.
  • Protection: a UV-cured varnish over the design takes everyday rubbing.
  • Minimum order: none for UV printing done in our studio.
  • Where: printed in Al Quoz First, Dubai, for customers across the UAE.

The suitcase on this page is our own work: a black cabin case printed as a tuxedo, with a name on the pocket and a Scorpio constellation at the hem.

The tuxedo suitcase: what was printed, and how

The case is a black hard-shell cabin case. The design turns its front into a dinner jacket: cream lapel lines, a pleated white shirt front with buttons, a bow tie in gold tones, a silver sprig with gold berries as a boutonnière, a pocket panel carrying the name haitham in gold script, and a gold Scorpio constellation near the bottom corner.

Three things make it work on a black shell:

  • White first. UV ink is translucent, so every light part of the design (the shirt, the bow tie, the lines) has white ink printed under it. Without it, the colour would sink into the black.
  • Layers where you touch. The sprig, its berries and the shirt buttons are built up in raised ink, so they stand off the shell.
  • The design respects the case. Everything sits on the flat front face, clear of the wheels, the handle housing, the lock and the corners that take the knocks.

White ink goes down first wherever the design is lighter than the black shell, so the shirt and the bow tie read as solid colour rather than as a tint.

Which suitcases can be printed?

Most hard-shell suitcases can be printed, as long as the shell takes ink and the front face is smooth enough for the detail you want. The shell material decides the preparation; the surface decides how fine the detail can be.

Shell materialHow it printsWhat to know
Polycarbonate (PC)Prints well once cleanedThe most common material for hard-shell cases; check the label inside the lining
ABS and PC/ABS blendsPrints well once cleanedOften found on lighter-weight and lower-priced cases
Polypropylene (PP)Rejects ink until it is treatedNeeds flame, plasma or primer treatment first; see why some plastics reject ink
Ribbed or textured shellsInk follows the surfaceDeep ribs break up fine lines and small text; a smooth panel suits names and detail best
Matt or soft-touch finishesDepends on the coatingWe test adhesion on the actual shell before the design goes on
Aluminium, soft-side fabric and leather trimsCase by caseSend photos and the maker's details; we tell you before quoting whether we can print it

Size is rarely the limit. A case lies on its back on the flatbed and the design prints on the front face; our Direct Color Systems UV44 has a 130 × 130 cm bed and takes objects up to 30 cm tall, which suits cabin cases. Send the dimensions of a larger case and we confirm the fit.

What you can print on a suitcase

  • Names and initials, in English, Arabic or both, in any font you choose.
  • A full design: a theme across the front, as on the tuxedo case, or a pattern, an illustration or a photograph.
  • Personal marks: a star sign, a date, a flag, a crest or a short line of text.
  • Logos and brand colours for staff, crew, team or VIP gifts.
  • Matching sets: a pair for a couple, or a family set where each case carries its own name, which also makes your own case easy to spot on the belt.

No artwork yet? Our design help page explains what we can prepare from an idea, a sketch or a photo.

Raised (embossed) printing on a suitcase

Raised printing builds height by printing UV ink in the same place again and again, curing each layer as it lands, until the design can be felt. Nothing is pressed into the shell, so the case is not weakened or dented. The effect is often called embossed, 3D or textured printing.

We can build up to about 6 mm of relief, but a suitcase needs far less. Low relief on the details that matter, such as buttons, berries, the strokes of a monogram or the outline of a logo, gives the touch without creating edges that catch on belts and other bags. Raised areas take more press time, so mark on your artwork exactly which parts should stand up. How the layers are built is covered in raised and 3D embossed UV printing.

Raised ink on the sprig, the berries and the buttons: the detail catches the light and can be felt with a fingertip. The name panel is printed flat.

Is a printed suitcase scratch resistant?

It resists everyday rubbing well, because a UV-cured varnish over the colour takes the wear. It is not knock-proof: a hard, sharp contact can mark any finish, printed or not.

The varnish is a sacrificial layer: sleeves, cloths, car boots and the side of the next bag slide over it rather than over the colour. What it cannot stop is a point load, such as a buckle, a metal corner or grit dragged across the shell under weight. That is why the design stays off the corners and edges, and why a cabin case that stays with you keeps its print best.

For a case you check in, a clear or printed luggage cover protects the print from the conveyors and the hold. Clean the case with a soft cloth and mild soap and water; keep scouring pads, abrasive creams and solvents off the print. What decides how long a print lasts on any object is set out in how long UV printing lasts.

Direct print vs stickers vs luggage covers

Print direct when the design should be part of the case, with raised detail and no edges to lift. Choose a sticker for a temporary look, and a cover when the priority is protecting a checked bag.

Wedding, gift and corporate suitcases in the UAE

  • Weddings: in many Gulf weddings the bride receives a suitcase of gifts from the groom's side. A printed case with both names, a monogram or the wedding date makes the case part of the gift. A matching pair for the bride and groom works for the honeymoon too.
  • Personal gifts: graduations, birthdays, retirements and a first trip abroad, with a name or a star sign, as on the tuxedo case.
  • Children's cases: a name and a favourite character or animal they can recognise.
  • Corporate gifts: executive and VIP gifts, long-service awards, and cases for crews, teams and delegations travelling together, with the logo or the name of each traveller. See corporate gift printing in Dubai and our guide to corporate gifting in the UAE.

How suitcase printing works at Sun Studio

  1. Send photos of the case (front, side and the material label inside), its dimensions, your name or artwork and the quantity.
  2. We check the shell, its finish and the front face, and lay the design out to clear the wheels, handle, lock and corners.
  3. You approve the artwork on a proof. For a run of cases, one case is printed first for your approval.
  4. We clean the shell, treat it if the material needs it, and print: white base, colour, raised layers and varnish, all cured by UV light.
  5. You collect from Al Quoz, or we arrange delivery within the UAE. The date comes with the quote, since it depends on the design, the raised areas and the quantity.

What to send for a quote

  • Photos of the case: the front, one side and the material label inside the lining
  • The make, model and dimensions, if you know them
  • The name, wording or logo, ideally as a vector file
  • Any parts that should be raised
  • The quantity, and whether the cases are a pair, a set or a corporate run
  • Your deadline, such as a wedding or a travel date

Common questions

Can you print my name on my suitcase in Dubai?
Yes. We print names, initials, logos and full designs direct onto hard-shell suitcases at our studio in Al Quoz, Dubai. Send a photo of the case and the name, and we lay the design out for you to approve.
Can you print an Arabic name on a suitcase?
Yes. Arabic, English or both, in any font, because the name is printed as part of the artwork. We check the spelling and the layout with you on the proof before printing.
Can any suitcase be printed?
Most hard-shell cases with a reasonably smooth front can. Polycarbonate and ABS print well once cleaned; polypropylene needs flame, plasma or primer treatment first. Send a photo of the material label and we confirm.
Will the print scratch off at the airport?
A UV-cured varnish over the design takes everyday rubbing, so the print does not simply wear off. A hard knock from a sharp edge can still mark it, as it would any finish. For checked luggage, a luggage cover gives the print extra protection.
What is raised or embossed printing on a suitcase?
UV ink printed in the same place layer after layer, each layer cured as it lands, until the detail can be felt. Nothing is pressed into the shell. On a suitcase we keep the relief low and put it only where it matters.
Can you print on a dark or black suitcase?
Yes. White ink goes under the colour wherever the design is lighter than the shell, so light colours stay bright on black, as on the tuxedo case on this page.
Is there a minimum order for printed suitcases?
No. There is no minimum order for UV printing done in our studio, so one case, a pair or a corporate run are all possible.
How long does it take to print a suitcase?
It depends on the design, the raised areas and the quantity, so we confirm the date with the quote. Tell us your wedding or travel date when you send the brief.
Can you print a company logo on luggage for staff or clients?
Yes. We print logos, brand colours and individual names on cases for corporate gifts, crews and teams. For a run, one case is printed first for your approval.
Will printing affect my suitcase warranty?
Printing changes the surface of the shell, so check the maker's warranty terms before you print a new case. It does not touch the wheels, handles, zips or lock.
How do I clean a printed suitcase?
Use a soft cloth with mild soap and water. Keep scouring pads, abrasive creams and solvents off the print.
