Printed Handheld Fans as Wedding Favours for Lamatna

Lamatna, a wedding planner, wanted a favour guests would actually use rather than pocket: a handheld fan for every guest at a Dubai summer wedding.

The fans were printed in the couple’s pink and mint palette, carrying the couple’s monogram alongside Lamatna’s own mark.

The requirement

A favour handed to every guest has to survive an evening of being held, waved and dropped into bags — and it had to carry two marks at once without either being lost on a small curved body.

What we did

The fans were printed direct, so the artwork is on the plastic itself with no film over the top and no edge for the print to start lifting from.

Technical considerations

The fan is the difficult part. It is a small moulded plastic body with a battery sealed inside and a curved handle, which rules out most decorating routes. Screen printing needs a post-cure — heat applied to the item to set the ink — which is not something you do to a sealed plastic fan with a battery in it.

A UV DTF transfer is a different problem: it is a printed film laid on top of the surface, so it has an edge, and an edge is where a transfer starts to lift. On a small curved item handled all night in Dubai heat, that edge is exactly where the stress goes.

The outcome

A favour that stayed in guests’ hands all evening instead of in a pocket — and came home with the print still on it.
